description
Assign a descriptive text string to the interface.
Syntax
description desc_text
To delete a description, enter no description.

• Spaces between characters are not preserved after entering this command unless you enclose the
entire description in quotation marks (“desc_text”).
• Entering a text string after the description command overwrites any previous text string configured
as the description.
• The shutdown and description commands are the only commands that you can configure on an
interface that is a member of a port-channel.
• Use the show interfaces description command to display descriptions configured for each
interface.

To return to the default setting, use the no duplex command.

This command applies to any physical interface with speed set to 1000/10000.
desc_text
Enter a text string up to 240 characters long.

show interfaces description
Displays the description field of interfaces.
half Enter the keyword half to set the physical interface to transmit only in one direction.
full Enter the keyword full to set the physical interface to transmit in both directions.

Note: Starting with FTOS 7.8.1.0, when a copper SFP2 module with catalog number
GP-SFP2-1T is used, its speed can be manually set with the speed command. When the speed
is set to 10 or 100 Mbps, the duplex command can also be executed.
