Enable DHCP Server

DHCP server is disabled by default. To enable the DHCP server, follow these steps:

In Figure 9-3, an IP phone is powered by power over ethernet (PoE) and has acquired an IP address from

the Dell Force10 system, which is advertising link layer discover protocol (LLDP)-media endpoint

discovery (MED). The leased IP address is displayed using the

show ip dhcp binding command and

confirmed with the

show lldp neighbors command.

Configure a Method of Hostname Resolution

Dell Force10 systems are capable of providing DHCP clients with parameters for two methods of

hostname resolution.

Address Resolution using DNS

A domain is a group of networks. DHCP clients query domain name server (DNS) IP servers when they

need to correlate host names to IP addresses. To specify the order of preference for the DNS servers,

follow these steps:
