Information
When you enter the ping command without specifying an IP/IPv6 address (Extended Ping), you are
prompted for a target IP/IPv6 address, a repeat count, a datagram size (up to 1500 bytes), a timeout in
seconds, and for Extended Commands. Refer to Appendix , for information on the ICMP message
codes that return from a ping command.
Example 1
(IPv4)

Type Ctrl-C to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.31.1.255, timeout is 2 seconds:

For an 100/1000 Ethernet interface, enter the keyword GigabitEthernet followed
by the slot/port information.
For a 1-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
GigabitEthernet followed by
the slot/port information.
For a Port Channel, enter the keyword port-channel followed by a number:
C-Series and S-Series: 1-128
E-Series: 1 to 255 for TeraScale and 1 to 512 for ExaScale
E-Series only For the SONET interfaces, enter the keyword sonet followed by slot/
port information.
For a 10-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword TenGigabitEthernet
followed by the slot/port information.
For a VLAN interface, enter the keyword
vlan followed by a number from 1 to 4094.
