To enable the root guard on an STP-enabled port or port-channel interface, enter the spanning-tree
rootguard command:
To disable STP root guard on a port or port-channel interface, enter the
no spanning stp-id rootguard
command in an interface configuration mode.
To verify the STP root guard configuration on a port or port-channel interface, enter the
show
spanning-tree 0 guard [interface interface] command in global configuration mode.
SNMP Traps for Root Elections and Topology Changes
Enable SNMP traps for Spanning Tree state changes using the command snmp-server enable traps
stp.
Enable SNMP traps for MSTP using the command
snmp-server enable traps xstp.
Configuring Spanning Trees as Hitless
Configuring Spanning Trees as Hitless is supported only on platforms: c e
You can configure Spanning Tree (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), Multiple Spanning Tree (MSTP),
and Per-Vlan Spanning Tree (PVST+) to be hitless (all or none must be configured as hitless). When
configured as hitless, critical protocol state information is synchronized between RPMs so that RPM
failover is seamless, and no topology change is triggered.
Configure all Spanning Tree types to be hitless using the command
redundancy protocol xstp from
CONFIGURATION mode, as shown in the following example.

FTOS#show running-config redundancy

Task Command Syntax Command Mode
Enable STP root guard on a port or port-channel interface.
stp-id: Spanning Tree instance. Range: 0 to 63.
cost number: (Optional) Cost value used to select the port
as a forwarding port. Range: 0 to 200000.
priority number: (Optional) Priority used to select the port
as a forwarding port if more than one port have the same
cost. Range: 0 to 240.
portfast [bpduguard [shutdown-on-violation]]:
(Optional) Enable PortFast to start forwarding traffic sooner
and optionally shutdown of the interface hardware when it
receives a BPDU (refer to Enabling PortFast).
