Port-shutdown
In a redundant system, you can configure the system to shut down ports when the primary fails and fail
over to the back-up system. To do implement that failover use the
logging coredump linecard
port-shutdown command.
In the following example, the ports on line card 13 shut down while the ports on line card 0 remain up
during a core dump.
FTOS(conf)# logging coredump linecard 0
FTOS(conf)# logging coredump linecard 0 ?
no-port-shutdown Maintain port operational state.
port-shutdown Shut down all ports
FTOS(conf)# logging coredump linecard 13 port-shutdown
To enable full line card application and kernel core dumps and specify the shutdown mode.
Mini core dump
The line card mini kernel and application core dumps are always enabled. A mini core dump contains
critical information in the case that a full core dump is not successful. After line card reset, line card mini
core dump file FTP to RPM flash takes about 5 seconds. New files are written in flash until space is
exhausted, in which case the write is aborted.
Mini line card core dump files are also located in the CORE_DUMP_DIR directory with the name
f10lp[0-13].kcore.mini.txt (for the kernel) and f10lp[0-13].acore.mini.txt (for the application).
Follow these steps to locate the line card core dump files. The mini core dump file is a text (.txt) file so it
can be easily read. The full core dump files are gz files and can only be read by Dell Force10 TAC.
Note: Configure the port shutdown before a software exception.
