4 Software Configuration
Afteryoucompletethearrayhardwareinstallation,youcaninitializethearrayandcreateaPSSeriesgroup
withthearrayasthefirstgroupmember.Alternately,youcanaddthearraytoanexistinggroup.Whenyou
expandagroup,capacityandperformancescaleautomaticallywithnoimpactonusers.
Aftercompletingthesoftwareconfiguration,youcanallocatestorageandstartusingtheiSCSISANarray.See
Storage Allocation on page 23.
Choose a Configuration Method
Therearetwomethodsforconfiguringthesoftware.Chooseonemethod:
• UsetheRemoteSetupwizard,eitherforWindowsorLinux.ForinstructionsaboutusingtheRemoteSetup
wizard,seetheDell EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for Microsoft Installation and User’s Guideorthe
Dell EqualLogic Host Integration Tool for Linux Installation and User's Guide.
• Usethesetuputility.Thesetuputilityisaninteractive,commandlineutilitythatpromptsforinformation
aboutthearrayandgroupconfiguration.
Tousethesetuputility,youmusthaveaserialconnectionbetweenthearrayandaconsoleterminalora
computerrunningaterminalemulator.
Afterchoosingamethod,collecttheinformationneededforthearrayconfiguration.
Collect Configuration Information
Regardlessofthemethodyouusetoconfigurethesoftware,youmustcollecttheinformationinTable6and
Table7.ObtainIPaddressesfromyournetworkadministrator,asneeded.
Also,makesureyoufollowthenetworkrecommendationsinNetwork Requirements and Recommendations on
page 9.

Netmask
AddressthatcombineswiththeIPaddresstoidentifythesubnetonwhichthearray
networkinterfaceresides(defaultis255.255.255.0).
Defaultgateway
(optional)
Networkaddressforthedeviceusedtoconnectsubnetsandforwardnetworktrafficbeyond
thelocalnetwork.Adefaultgatewayisneededonlyifyouwantthearraynetworkinterface
tocommunicateoutsidethelocalnetwork(forexample,toallowaccesstovolumesfrom
computersoutsidethelocalnetwork).
Note: Thedefaultgatewaymustbeonthesamesubnetasthearraynetworkinterface.
