1. InstallandconfigureaniSCSIinitiatoronthecomputer.Hardwareandsoftwareinitiators
areavailablefromdifferentvendors.Configureyourinitiatorusingtheinstructionsprovided
bythevendor.
Note: DellrecommendsthatyouvisittheTechnicalSupportwebsitetoobtainimportant
informationaboutusinginitiatorstoaccessPSSeriesgroupvolumes.
2. Makesurethatthecomputermatchesoneofthevolume’saccesscontrolrecords.Todisplay
therecordsforavolume:
– UsingtheCLI,enterthefollowingcommand:
volume select volume_name access show
– UsingtheGUI,expandVolumesinthefar-leftpanel,selectthevolumename,andclick
theAccesstab.
Ifnecessary,usetheCLIortheGUItocreateanaccesscontrolrecordthatthecomputer
willmatch.
3. TodisplaytheiSCSItargetnameforthevolume:
– UsingtheCLI,enterthefollowingcommand:
volume select volume_name show
– UsingtheGUI,expandVolumesinthefar-leftpanel,selectthevolumename,andclick
theConnectionstab.
4. Onthecomputer,usetheiSCSIinitiatorutilitytospecifythegroupIPaddressastheiSCSI
discoveryaddress.Iftheinitiatorsupportsthediscoveryprocess,itwillreturnalistofiSCSI
targetsthatthecomputercanaccess.
Iftheinitiatordoesnotsupportdiscovery,youmustalsospecifythetargetnameand,in
somecases,thestandardiSCSIportnumber(3260).
5. UsetheiSCSIinitiatorutilitytoselectthedesiredtargetandlogintothetarget.
WhenthecomputerconnectstotheiSCSItarget,itseesthevolumeasaregulardiskthatcanbe
formattedusingthenormaloperatingsystemutilities.Forexample,youcanpartitionthediskand
createafilesystem.
