Set the Member RAID Policy
Thestoragespaceinanewgroupmember(array)isnotavailableuntilyouconfigureaRAID
policyonthemember.
ARAIDpolicyconsistsofaRAIDlevelandasparediskconfiguration.Whenyouselecta
RAIDpolicy,themember’sdisksareautomaticallyconfiguredwiththeselectedRAIDleveland
theappropriatenumberofsparedisks.
IfyouusedtheRemoteSetupwizardtocreateagroup,theRAIDpolicyforthefirstmemberis
setaccordingtoyourRAIDpolicyselectionwhenconfiguringthesoftware,andthestorageis
readytouse.SeeStorage Allocation on page 23.
Ifyouusedthesetuputilitytocreateorexpandagroup,oraddedthearraytoanexistinggroup
withtheRemoteSetupwizard,youmustsettheRAIDpolicyforthegroupmember.
UseeithertheGroupManagercommandlineinterface(CLI)orthegraphicaluserinterface
(GUI)tosettheRAIDpolicy.
Using the CLI to Set the RAID Policy
TousetheGroupManagerCLItosettheRAIDpolicyforanewgroupmember:
1. Logintothegroup,ifyouarenotalreadyloggedin.(Afterthesetuputilitycompletes,you
willstillbeloggedintothegroup.)Useoneofthefollowingmethodstoconnecttothegroup:
– Serialconnectiontoamember.SeeSet Up a Serial Connection to the Array on page 13.
– TelnetorsshconnectiontothegroupIPaddress.
2. Attheloginprompt,enterthegrpadminaccountnameandthepasswordthatyouspecified
whencreatingthegroup.
3. AttheGroupManagercommandprompt,enterthefollowingcommandtospecifyRAID6,or
RAID6-accelerated(availableXSarraymodelsonly),RAID10,orRAID50forthepolicy
variable:
member select member_name raid-policy policy
Forexample,thefollowingcommandconfiguresmember1withRAID6:
member select member1 raid-policy raid6

AfteryouaddamembertoaPSSeriesgroup,youmustsettheRAIDpolicyforthememberand
choosethestoragepool.ThestorageinthememberisavailableafteryousettheRAIDpolicy.
TousetheGUItosettheRAIDpolicyforamembers,usethefollowingprocedure:
Procedure
1. ClickGroupandthenclickthegroupnametoopentheGroupSummarywindow.
2. ExpandMembersandthendouble-clickthemembername.TheGUIshowswhetheramember
isconfiguredornot.
