SC Series features
16 Dell EMC SC Series: Performance and Availability | 4024-BP-SC
Rules for compression (HDD-only systems) include the following:
• Tier 1, tier 2, tier 3: Compression on tier 3 only
• Tier 1, tier 3: Compression on tier 3 only
In a three-tier system, only tier 1 and tier 3 will be deduplicated and compressed because the amount of data-
reduction domains may exceed the memory requirements needed for a failover.
For volumes that have data reduction turned on, the snapshot schedules should be staggered to avoid putting
too much pressure on the system resources, such as the SAS chain back end. In addition, schedules of
groups of volumes should allow for each set to complete the snapshot processing (for instance, spanning a
couple of hours between sets for high-change-rate volumes).
3.6 Volume Quality of Service
Dell EMC recommends using the volume Quality of Service feature on workloads which might monopolize SC
Series resources and starve other applications of their required performance.
Example: Limit the bandwidth available to large-block applications which may be increasing the latency on
other small-block workloads.
