Virtual machines
Discovery feature discovers the hypervisors hosting virtual machines (VM) along with host servers. The virtual machines are
listed in Guest Information section in OpenManage Enterprise. After adding the servers in Power Manager, the required
hypervisor settings are automatically enabled by Power Manager to retrieve data that is related to virtual machines from the
servers and the virtual machines are listed on the Power Manager Devices tab.
Hypervisors do not directly provide the power and energy consumption details of the VMs. Hence, Power Manager collects the
CPU usage data for each VM in the host and approximately calculates the power and energy that is consumed by the server
to the individual VMs in the host. Use this feature to view resource consumption of each VM and to monitor and manage the
servers hosting the VMs.
The following table lists the various operating system versions that are supported in Power Manager for monitoring virtual
machines.
Table 12. Operating Systems and the supported versions
Operating System Supported Versions
Microsoft Windows Hypervisors Microsoft Windows 2022
Microsoft Windows 2019

VMware ESXi ESXi 7.0
ESXi 7.0 U1
ESXi 6.7 U3
A VM is identified using a unique identifier, UUID for each VM. The list of VMs and their information is refreshed with each
metric collection. If a new VM is created, or deleted, this information is reviewed in the next cycle. If the VM is migrated to
another server, and if this new server is added to Power Manager, the VM is identified as same using the UUID and the metrics
collection continues for the VM. In case the UUIDs do not match then the VM is detected as a new VM and Power Manager
starts collecting the data as a new VM.
A VM cannot be added or removed manually from Power Manager. Only if the host server is added to Power Manager, the
VMs are automatically added to Power Manager. And, if the host server is removed from Power Manager or deleted from
OpenManage Enterprise, the VM is automatically removed from Power Manager.

Prerequisites
Before viewing the virtual machines, ensure the following:
The server (iDRAC) and the hypervisor (host operating system) are discovered in OpenManage Enterprise.
The correlation of the discovered server and the hypervisor is successful.
The credentials provided to discover the hypervisor have Administrator privileges.
The server is added in Power Manager. To add a server to Power Manager, ensure that you have the required licenses. For
more information, see License requirements.
