Configuring the DRAC 4 to Use a Serial or Telnet Text Console 65
Using a Serial or Telnet Console
NOTE: If you are running Windows XP or Windows 2003 and experience problems
with characters in a DRAC 4 telnet session, navigate to the Microsoft Support
website located at support.microsoft.com website and search for Knowledge Base
article 824810, which provides a hot fix for this issue. This problem may manifest
itself as an apparently frozen login (the return key does not respond and the
password prompt does not appear).
NOTE: On a management station running Windows 2000, pressing the <F2> key
does not enter the BIOS setup. To resolve this issue, use the telnet client that is
included with the Windows Services for UNIX
®
3.5 (a recommended free download
from Microsoft). Browse to www.microsoft.com/downloads/ and search for
"Windows Services for UNIX 3.5."
NOTE: When a telnet login attempt is invalid, a single session is counted toward
the maximum of four sessions for approximately one minute after the invalid login
attempt. If three valid sessions exist, this invalid session will prevent further login
attempts for that minute.
Serial and telnet commands, and racadm CLI can be typed in a serial or
telnet console. These commands can be executed on the server locally or
remotely. The local racadm CLI is installed for use as a root user only.
For more information about the serial/telnet commands and racadm CLI,
see "Using the Serial and racadm Commands."
