Management Driver Sets to Present: the system-management instrumentation
sets this BIOS setting when it loads to instruct that BIOS
that operating system level software is handling any out-
of-range management conditionif a critical threshold is
passed, the driver takes responsibility for shutting down
the operating system and powering off the system. The
instrumentation is responsible for de-registering itself via
the Absent BIOS setting when it unloads. Implementation.
NOTE: To maintain compatibility with Dell Command |
Monitor, a BIOS that implements this BIOS setting via
an Indexed I/O access method must ensure that an
AND-mask of 0xFB and an OR-value of 0x04 maintains
the present statusi.e. the status is in bit 2 of the
indexed I/O location.
Sets to Absent: this BIOS setting indicates to the system
BIOS that any system-management monitoring is its
responsibility. If an out-of-range management condition
occurs in the system, the BIOS powers off the system
to prevent hardware damage. Implementation Note: To
maintain compatibility with Dell Command | Monitor, a BIOS
that implements of this BIOS setting via an Indexed I/O
access method must ensure that an AND-mask of 0xFB and
an OR-value of 0x00 maintains the absent statusi.e. the
