This scenario guides you to perform the following tasks:
Bring up the chassis with basic configurations.
Verify that hardware is being detected by CMC without any errors.
Update firmware for CMC, IOMs, and server components.
1. CMC is pre-installed on your chassis and hence no installation is required. You can install a second
CMC to run as a standby to the active CMC.
For information on installing a second CMC, see the Understanding Redundant CMC Environment
section.
2. Set up the chassis using the steps provided in the Checklist To Set up Chassis.
3. Configure CMC management IP address and the initial CMC network using the LCD panel or the Dell
CMC serial console.
For information, see the Configuring Initial CMC Network section.
4. Configure the logs and alerts to produce logs and set alerts for certain events that occur on the
Managed system.
For information see, Configuring CMC to Send Alerts section.
5. Configure the IP address and network settings for servers using the CMC Web interface.
For information, see the Configuring Server.
6. Configure the IP address and network settings for IOMs using the Web interface.
For more information, see the Configuring Network Settings for IOM(s) section.
7. Power on the servers.
8. Check the hardware logs, CMC logs, and email or SNMP trap alerts for invalid hardware
configurations.
For more information, see the Viewing Event Logs section.
9. To diagnose issues related to hardware, access the Diagnostic Console.
For more information on using the Diagnostic Console, see the Using Diagnostic Console section.
10. For information on errors in hardware configuration issues, see the Dell Event Message Reference
Guide
or the Server Administrator Messages Reference Guide located at dell.com/support/manuals.
