206 Using the CMC Web Interface
Managing Firmware Updates
This section describes how to update firmware on the Chassis and Server
components using the GUI and RACADM utility.
The following components can be updated using RACADM or the GUI. In
the GUI, you can perform the update using the Chassis Overview Update
or the Chassis Controller Update pages:
• CMC — active and standby
•iKVM
• iDRAC — The iDRAC Firmware iDRACs earlier than iDRAC6 must be
updated using the recovery interface. iDRAC6 FW can also be updated
with the recovery interface, but is deprecated for iDRAC6 and future
versions.
• IOM infrastructure devices
The GUI Server Overview Update page enables you to update the
following server components.
•iDRAC
•BIOS
• Unified Server Configurator
•32-Bit Diagnostics
•OS-Drivers Pack
• Network Interface Controllers
• RAID Controllers
Dell Update Packages (DUPs) are used to perform the firmware updates using
Lifecycle Controller. The Lifecycle Controller supports firmware images in
the Dell Update Package (DUP) format. The default CMC configuration has
a 48MB limit on the size of the DUP. The OS-Driver Pack component DUP
exceeds this limit and must be updated separately using the Extended
Storage feature. For more information see "Updating Server Component
Firmware Using Lifecycle Controller" on page 214.
When you update firmware, there is a recommended process to follow that
can prevent a loss of service if the update fails. For guidelines to follow, see
"Installing or Updating CMC Firmware" on page 53.
