A PSU failure brings other PSUs out of Standby mode, as needed, to support
the chassis power allocations. If you have 4 PSUs, and require only three, then
in the event that one fails, the fourth PSU is brought online. A chassis can
have all 6 PSUs online.
When you enable DPSE, the extra PSUs may be placed in Standby mode to
increase efficiency and save power. For more information, see "Dynamic
Power Supply Engagement" on page 325.
Power Budgeting for Hardware Modules
Figure 9-4 illustrates a chassis that contains a six-PSU configuration.
The PSUs are numbers 1-6, starting on the left-side of the enclosure.
