Enabling WOL under Novell

NICsandLOMsfromDellhaveWOLdisabledbydefault.Havingmorethan
onedeviceenabledforWOLinasystemcanoverloadthe3.3voltauxiliary
powersupplyandcauseittomalfunction.Dellstronglyrecommendsthatonly
onedevicebeenabledforWOLpersystem.ToenableWOL,create
aDOS
bootablefloppyandcopytheutility,listedintheToolssectionabove,specificto
theWOLdevicetoitfromtheDellOpenManagementServerAssistantor
downloaditfromhttp://support.dell.com
.
ThestepstoenablingWOLunderNetWare5.xand6.xareasfollows:

1. BootthesystemusingtheDOSfloppy,andrun‘IBAUTIL.EXE’,
‘UXDIAG.EXE–tABCD’or‘B57UDIAG.EXE–tABCD’.Theseprogramswill
displaythephysicallyinstalledadaptersandthestatusofeachcard’sWOL
setting.UXDIAG.EXEisfor
NetXtremeIIdevicesandB57UDIAG.EXEisfor
NetXtremeIdevices.
2. ChoosetheNICforWOL,recorditsMACaddress,andnoteitsnumberon
thelefthandsideofthedisplay.
a. EnableIntelWOLbytyping‘ibautil–nic=X–wole’whereXisthe
numberoftheNIC
inthedisplay.
b. EnableBroadcomNX1WOLbytyping‘b57udiag–w1–cX’whereX
isthenumberoftheNICinthedisplay.
c. EnableBroadcomNX2WOLbytyping‘uxdiag–cX–wol1’whereX
isthenumberoftheNICinthedisplay.
3.
RebootthesystemandstarttheNetWareserver.IfthemostrecentDell
provideddriversarenotinstalled,installthem.
4. ForIntelbasedNICsorLOMsnomodificationisnecessary,thedriverisset
upforWOLbydefault.ToturnoffWOL,usethe‘pmedisable=1’keyword
in
theloadline.Set‘pmedisable=0’toreenableWOL
5. ForBroadcombasedNICsorLOMS,thekeyword‘magicp=1’mustbeused
toenablethedriverforWOL.Setting‘magicp=0’disablesWOL,disabledis
thedefault.
