The bundled Windows 8 apps work well within the

confines of the Start screen. Unfortunately, Microsoft

configured the Windows 8 desktop to use some of

these Start screen apps rather than standard desktop

programs.

Exiting from Windows

Here’s the quickest way to turn off your PC:

1. Move your mouse pointer to the bottom-right

corner to fetch the Charms bar. (On a touch-

screen, swipe inward from the right edge.)

2. Click the Settings icon and then click the

Power icon.

3. Choose Shut Down.

If the computer protests, saying you’ll lose

unsaved work, choose Sleep instead.
