Installation guide
Shared Disk Conguraon
On windows 2003 (32 and 64 bit versions), the user must enable the automac mounng
of new volumes on each node in the cluster.
• The default value for auto mounng was changed from enabled in Windows 2000 to disabled in Windows 2003, so this
addional step is required.
• Auto mount should be enabled before creang the new parons and must be done on all nodes in the cluster. A reboot is
required for the value to take hold.
diskpart.exe
diskpart> automount enable
diskpart> exit
Install Cluster Soware
Both Oracle9i RAC and Oracle10g RAC are oered on a variety of plaorms. On each plaorm, some form of Cluster Soware must
be provided in order to ulize shared disks in an acve/acve mode. Under Oracle9i, Oracle ulizes the nave cluster support
available for the parcular plaorm, if available. Under Oracle10g, Oracle has made an eort to provide common Cluster Soware
support across all plaorms. This provides a consistent experience across all plaorms, and makes support easier for both Oracle and
the customer.
For all versions of Windows Server, Oracle has provided the Cluster soware since the beginning of Oracle RAC. The actual
installaon process used for Oracle Clusterware is somewhat dependent on the method chosen for storing data on shared disks.
With Oracle9i RAC or10g RAC, you always have the opon of using Raw parons for storing shared cluster data. However, it is very
dicult to install on Raw volumes, and even more dicult to administer or back up. For these reasons, installing on raw
volumes is not covered in this paper. The preferred opon for Oracle9i is to ulize the Oracle Cluster File System. OCFS oers similar
performance to raw disk parons, and is almost as easy to manage as a tradional le system. With Oracle10g, you can sll
choose to use OCFS. However, you also have the opon of using Automac Storage Management (ASM). ASM can be used with
either stand-alone servers or clustered servers.
The following secon details the steps necessary to install Cluster Soware. Installing Oracle Clusterware for use with OCFS is covered
for Oracle9i. For Oracle10g installaons, installing Cluster Ready Services for use with either OCFS or ASM is covered.
Installing Oracle9i Clusterware
Due to the need to install mulple patches, installing Oracle9i Clusterware is a mul-step process. As a rst step, all of the patches
need to be downloaded into a staging directory. Next, the 9.2.0.5 version of the Oracle Cluster Wizard is run to inialize the cluster.
Before proceeding further, it is necessary to upgrade the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to version 9.2.0.5. Then you may install OCFS
binaries into the Oracle Home directory.
