Shared Disk Conguraon
On windows 2003 (32 and 64 bit versions), the user must enable the automac mounng
of new volumes on each node in the cluster.
• The default value for auto mounng was changed from enabled in Windows 2000 to disabled in Windows 2003, so this
addional step is required.
• Auto mount should be enabled before creang the new parons and must be done on all nodes in the cluster. A reboot is
required for the value to take hold.

diskpart> automount enable

Install Cluster Soware
Both Oracle9i RAC and Oracle10g RAC are oered on a variety of plaorms. On each plaorm, some form of Cluster Soware must
be provided in order to ulize shared disks in an acve/acve mode. Under Oracle9i, Oracle ulizes the nave cluster support
available for the parcular plaorm, if available. Under Oracle10g, Oracle has made an eort to provide common Cluster Soware
support across all plaorms. This provides a consistent experience across all plaorms, and makes support easier for both Oracle and
the customer.
For all versions of Windows Server, Oracle has provided the Cluster soware since the beginning of Oracle RAC. The actual
installaon process used for Oracle Clusterware is somewhat dependent on the method chosen for storing data on shared disks.
With Oracle9i RAC or10g RAC, you always have the opon of using Raw parons for storing shared cluster data. However, it is very
dicult to install on Raw volumes, and even more dicult to administer or back up. For these reasons, installing on raw
volumes is not covered in this paper. The preferred opon for Oracle9i is to ulize the Oracle Cluster File System. OCFS oers similar
performance to raw disk parons, and is almost as easy to manage as a tradional le system. With Oracle10g, you can sll
choose to use OCFS. However, you also have the opon of using Automac Storage Management (ASM). ASM can be used with
either stand-alone servers or clustered servers.
The following secon details the steps necessary to install Cluster Soware. Installing Oracle Clusterware for use with OCFS is covered
for Oracle9i. For Oracle10g installaons, installing Cluster Ready Services for use with either OCFS or ASM is covered.
Installing Oracle9i Clusterware
Due to the need to install mulple patches, installing Oracle9i Clusterware is a mul-step process. As a rst step, all of the patches
need to be downloaded into a staging directory. Next, the 9.2.0.5 version of the Oracle Cluster Wizard is run to inialize the cluster.
Before proceeding further, it is necessary to upgrade the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to version 9.2.0.5. Then you may install OCFS
binaries into the Oracle Home directory.
