Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
• Thelaststepintheexhaustaftertreatmentprocess
and designed to scrub any remaining soot from
the exhaust
– Soot can be described as the black smoke seen in
diesel exhaust
• Locatedintheexhaustsystem,aftertheSCR
• Periodicallycleansitselfthroughaprocessknownas
“regeneration,”whichissimilartoasmallincinerator
burning off trapped particulates
– Passive regeneration naturally burns off soot when
exhaust temperatures are high enough
– Active regeneration (forced burn-off) occurs as
needed, depending on operational use

(OCR; 98R)

at idle
• OCRisaveryspecializedoptionrequiringthecustomer
havefullknowledgeofproperuseandactuation—it's
highly recommended the dealer and the customer
review pages 56–58 of the most recent Super Duty
Diesel Supplement for more information
• OCRisnotrecommendedforgeneralcustomeruse,
includes a $250 MSRP and is intended for unique
applications where the vehicle is rarely, if at all, driven
above 15–20 mph and/or experiences extended
idle periods
– Vocations where the above can occur are oil
refineries, underground mining, line repair and
tree trimming
– Customers within these vocations may find it
beneficial to have the option of a manual DPF
regeneration during a work cycle
