CA Prop 65 Exposure Assessment Page 2 | 15
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report conservatively estimates the lifetime average daily consumer exposure to the
Proposition 65 listed volatile organic compounds (VOCs) 1,4 dioxane, acetaldehyde and 1-
methylethylbenzene (cumene) that could occur during anticipated use of the Deflecto
Execumat Chair Mats within a private office, school classroom, and home residence.
Exposure to 1,4 dioxane, acetaldehyde and cumene released from the Execumat Chair
Mats is based on inhalation exposures only. Exposure parameters and product usage
assumptions included in this assessment are conservative, ensuring that calculated
exposures overestimate what would occur during actual product use. For example, this
report is based on an upper bound surface areas of the Execumat Chair Mats in all
scenarios which will overestimate the emitting surface under standard product usage. In
addition, higher ventilation rates than those used within this model are likely within each
modeled environment and would result in lower indoor air VOC concentrations. Using this
conservative model for the private office, school classroom, and home residence scenarios,
the 1,4 dioxane LADDs were calculated to be 0.4, 0.04, and 0.2 µg/day, respectively;
acetaldehyde LADDs were calculated to be 2.0, 0.2, and 1.1 µg/day, respectively, and
cumene LADDs were calculated to be 1.0, 0.1, and 0.5 µg/day, respectively. These
calculated LADDs are less than the established safe harbor value for 1,4 dioxane (NSRL
30 µg/day); acetaldehyde (NSRL 90 µg/day) as well as the provisional NSRL for cumene
(NSRL 3.7 µg/day).
