CA Prop 65 Cumene NSRL February 11, 2019 Page 2 | 12
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
This report describes the derivation of a cancer potency estimate and NSRL for cumene (CAS#
98-82-8). To estimate the human cancer potency the linearized multistage model was applied
to dose response data for increased incidence of lung tumors (alveolar/bronchiolar adenoma or
carcinoma) in B6C3F
1
mice exposed via inhalation. The potency derivation takes into account
differences in respiration rate and body size between humans and experimental animals.
The Proposition 65 NSRL is defined in regulation as the daily intake level posing a 10
-5
lifetime
risk of cancer. The human cancer potency estimate for cumene is 0.191 (mg/kg-day)
-1
and the
corresponding NSRL is 3.7 μg/day.
