4.2 Selecting the mode of operation
After the instrument has been turned on, choose the mode of operation by pressing the S
button. 4 operation modes can be selected:
STD In the regular mode of operation the actual measured value is displayed. The ac
tual measured value is the average value of all single measured values since the
display`s last update
PEAK+ the values are captured as described before but the display shows the positive
absolute peak values only (drag pointer function for push operation)
PEAK- instead of the positive now the negative absolute peak values are shown (drag
pointer function for pull operation)
PEAK (Peak symbol ashes) high speed measurement activated, in order to capture
the real peak value in break or tensile testing of hard materials. (this mode is
available in series FMI-S20 and FMI-S30 instruments only)
4.3 Start/Stop the measurement
Please pay attention on that force effects – both compressive and
tensile forces – are carried out perpendicularly to the measuring axle.
The measuring outcome will be false if the force axle is not aligned
perpendicularly.Force effects that do not appear perpendicularly can
damage the internal sensor. This is true especially for gauges with
a measurement range designed for small forces, when the radial or
laterally operating forces are too big.
By pressing the I-Button you start the measurement, the symbol of the measuring dimension
(N) flashes and the instrument performs an AUTO-TARA to eliminate the gravitation force in-
fluence of the measuring axis and the installed attachments which differs with the position of
the instrument. At the same time the temperature offset is readjusted. The AUTO-TARE function
can be deactivated (see chapter 6.6). Due to the very high sensivity of the instruments even
slight movements or minute vibrations in the environment are captured and diplayed with
values uneven zero.
By pressing the I-button or by the AUTO-STOP function (see chapter 6.5) the measuring cycle
will be stopped. The dimension unit and the last or peak value is displayed continuously.
4.4 Display measuring results
With stopping the measuring cycle the results of the measurement are captured and saved in
the instrument. By each press on the S-button the displayed value changes from > last value >
positive peak value > negative peak value > and back to the last value. If the measurement has
been taken in high speed mode, the PEAK symbol flashes accordingly.
To start the next measurement without deleting the peak memory, the I-button can be pressed.
