4.0 Conducting measurements
The internal sensor works bi-directional, i.e. in both directions, compression and tension. Fac-
tory-side, the instrument is attuned to display a positive value in the case of compressive force
applied at the measurement axle, and a negative value in the case of tensile force. You may
change this setting; see Chapter 6.2. Select the appropriate adapter for compression forces or
use the hook to detect tension forces. An extension rod should be used only if the accessibility
of the object cannot be achieved without. Special adapters for specific applications can be
found on our website www.alluris.de.

Attach adapters by hand only. Do not use tools to screw adapters onto the instrument`s threa-
ded axle. Radial and side forces can damage the instrument. In order to monitor active forces
it is recommended to switch the instrument on while mounting an adapter.
As gauges are often used in the scope of destruction-tests or for appraising security-relevant
thresholds you should always become familiar with the potentially resulting risks – broken
fragments, sudden change of force, crush risk – first and, if necessary, take counter actions.
4.1 Turn the instrument ON/OFF
Switch the instrument on by pressing the I-Button Taste until all display symbols light up.
After a self-test routine 3 information displays are shown to inform about the model number,
the recommended date of next calibration and the nominal measuring range (Fn). To turn the
instrument off you may press the I-Button for 2 seconds, else the AUTO-OFF function will turn
the instrument off automatically.
