Installation
Itispreferabletotstopvalvesbeforeandafterthepump,thiswillenablethepump
to be removed for maintenance without having to drain the spa.
Mostinstallationswillhavealterofsomedescription.Ifsoitmaybettedonthe
inletsideofthepump;howeveritisrecommendedthatitbettedontheoutletside
ofthepump(pressurelter).Ifthelteristtedontheinletsideitthereisadistinct
possibility that the water lock will be lost and that the pump may fail to prime on
restartifanattemptismadetotacartridgetypelter(ontheinlet)itmayresultin
restrictedwaterow,prematurecartridgefailureand/orotherproblems.Acartridge
ltershouldberegardedasapressurelteronly.
Poordesignofthespa(inlet/stoohigh),allowingairtoenteronlowwaterlevels,
mayalsoleadtothisproblem.Airinthesystemmayleadtopumpdamageand/or
heater damage
Finallywheninstallinganypool,spaorbathitisimportanttoensurethatthepool,
spaorbathiscleanandfreeofanyparticles.Leaves,pineneedles,grit,scoria,
sandandothersimilarmatter,ifallowedtoenterthepump,cancauseconsiderable
internal damage particularly to the impeller. Such damage may lead to premature
failure of the pump and / or decreased performance of the pump. It may also
damageothercomponentsoftheinstallation-heater,valves,etcthatmaybetted.
Ifapoolwithasalt-waterchlorinatorisbeinginstalleditwouldbenormalpracticeto
seedthepoolwithalargeamountofsalt(sodiumchloride).Onemightbetempted
tointroducethesaltintothepoolviatheskimltertoensureagoodmix.This
practiceshouldbeavoided,asthesaltparticlesarelikelytodamagethepump(they
mayalsodamagethesalinecellaswell).
Location
The pump should be located as close to the water as practicable and mounted on
armbaseinawelldrainedposition,highenoughtopreventanyooding.Itisthe
installer’s/owners responsibility to locate the pump such that the nameplate can be
easily read and accessed for service.
