4 CABLING
4.1 SERIAL CONSOLE SETUP
The DT-6061 is managed through its serial console port by a terminal, PC, dial-up modem, or
BNS asynchronous connection.
Specific instructions for configuration of SAM, TY12 and MSM asynchronous ports are available
in the appropriate BNS module, reference guide. DT-6061 specific, configuration notes are
described herein.
Console cables are available from your DT-6061 Reseller and may be required for console
connection through BNS, TY12 and MSM modules, SAM64/504 Multiplexors and connection
through an Ortronics distribution patch panel (see figure and table below).

Important! A modular cable with “SPECIAL WIRING” is different from a generic, 8 wire modular
cable. The DT-6061 console will typically connect to a PC/dumb terminal or a BNS asynchronous
device such as a TY12 or SAM. The diagram in Chapter 11 describes how to construct the with
“SPECIAL WIRING” . Otherwise, the cable can be ordered. Use the table below for part number
information.
