The printer waits for the variable fields from the computer and prints the label only when
all the required characters (or bytes) have been received.
The computer can also send the complete string of the necessary variable data for the
printer for an entire batch of labels. Such data is buffered automatically by the printer and
are recovered as necessary. The computer does not necessarily remain busy for the printer
during the printing of the batch (unless the total quantity of the variable data exceeds the
capacity of the buffer).
Note: in the case of variable text (/I2), when the printer recognises the back-
space control character (ASCII code 8), it prints small accented letters and letters
not included in the font with the sequence : accent+BS+letter (this sequence of 3
characters is valid for only 1 character in the field length). This characteristic is for
compatibility with the ST230, but is not otherwise necessary because the new fonts of
the ST314 have a larger international character set with accented letters.

/I6nndd..dssssthhhccc...ce
Is used to insert date and time from the printer’s internal clock into a barcode. The com-
mand format is as follows:
/I6nndd..dssssthhhccc...ce
nn
Is the length of the string dd...d which describes the format of the date and time
(see command /I5).
dd..d
Is the string which describes the format of the date and time (see command /I5).
ssss
Is the update frequency for the labels (see command /I3).
t
Is the type of barcode (see command /I3 – all are valid except add-on 6 and 7).
Warning: the type selected must be consistent with the selected date/hour string
format (example – if the day of the week is to be printed in a literal format, it is
necessary to select a barcode which supports the printing of alphabetic characters
in small print. Also ensure that the maximum length of the string is supported by
the desired barcode).
hhh
Is the height of the bars in dots /see command /I3).
ccc...c
Defines the barcode length. Input a string of the same length as the date/hour
string previously defined in dd...d. It is important to insert the correct length be-
cause the printer will use this data to clear the area of the barcode before updating
it with the subsequent barcode data (see command /I3).
