1 GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 DEFINITION OF THE SYSTEM

Datalogic STAR-System™ provides a modern and flexible RF Narrow Band Solution

for Mobile applications, exploiting one of the widest product range available on the

market, including Hand-Held Readers and Portable Terminals.

STAR-System™ links all the RF devices and their own host applications providing a

real time fast, reliable and cost-effective wireless connection between the operators

and the most common Windows based software tools, the most familiar databases or

the most widespread ERP/WMS systems.

Thanks to STAR-Link™ software tool, it is very easy to integrate data coming from

the Datalogic STAR-System™ into an Excel spreadsheet or an Access database:

even easier for a programmer is the development of a custom software to exchange

data in real time with Formula RF terminals or Datalogic Hand-Held Readers using

Rapid Application Development languages such as Visual Basic, C++Builder, Delphi,

etc…

STAR-Link™ is a professional software tool addressed to programmers familiar both

with "object programming" and 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP environments. Its main

component is an Automation COM object implementing a dual interface (it is possible

to use it with Visual Basic and Office application) that manages, at a low level, the

new Radio Frequency Network based on the new Datalogic CSMA/CA protocol.

1.2 MINIMUM CONFIGURATION REQUIRED

In order to install and use the STAR-Link™ packet, it is necessary to have at least

the following:

− PC with a Pentium processor;

− one of the following operating systems:

Windows 95 - SR2 or later

Windows 98

Windows NT + Service Pack 4

Windows ME

Windows 2000

Windows XP

− free serial port;

− 16 MB memory for Windows 95/98, 32 MB for Windows NT/ME/2000/XP;

− hard disk with at least 25 MB free space to run;

− VGA video card or better.
