OncesecureprintingisenabledthroughthePrinterManager,theCardPrinter
Driverautomaticallyusesthemostsecureprotocoltheprinterisconfiguredto
support.WhentheprinterisconfiguredtouseDPCL2 Secure,theWindows
PrinterProperties>PrinterStatuspagedisplay“Version2Secure”asthe
protocol.
Thesecureprintprocesspassesthroughthefollowingphasesinthebackground:
1. TheCardPrinterDriverautomaticallydet ectswhethertheprintersupports
DPCL2 Secureornon‐secureDPCL2languageprotocolandsendstheprintjob
usingthemostsecuremethodtheprintersupports.Ifneitheroftheseis
supported,theCardPrinterDriverusesthelegacynon‐secureDPCLprotocol.
2. Iftheprinteris configured to use theDPCL2 Secureprotocol,thejobpasses
throughtheSSLandcryptographicprocessing.
3. Oncethedatapassestheencryptionphase,itispassedthroughthenetwork
tothecardprinter.
4. Theprintjobprintsoutatthecardprinter.
Using Secure Printing
Secure Datacard Printers
DatacardmodelsSD260L, SD360,CD800,andCD870printershavebuilt‐insecure
printingcapabilitythatyouenableusingthePrinterManager.Earliermodelsof
theseprintersandtheSD260donotsupportsecureprinting.
Non‐secureprintersincludetheSD260orearliermodelsofSDandCDseries
printersthathandle
onlynon‐secureprinting,aswellascurrentmodelsofSDand
CDprintersthatarenotenabledforsecureprintinginthePrinterManager.
SecureprintingmustbeenabledforallcurrentDatacardSD260L,SD360,CD800and
CD870cardprinters.(Earliermodelsoftheseprintersdonotoffersecureprinting.)
PrintersthatprovideonlyDPCLorDPCL2non‐secureprintingmaybepartof
yournetwork.Besuretoidentifywhichprintersprovidesecureprintingand
whichprovidenon‐secureprinting.Donotinstallorsharenon‐secureprinterson
PCswheresecureprintingisrequired.
Donotinstallamixofsecureandnon‐secureprintersononePCwheresecure
printingisrequired.Ifyouinstallandsetupsecureandnon‐secureprintersonthe
samePC,youruntheriskofusersfailingtoselectasecureprinterwhenneeded.
