Appendix E: Creating a User Import File
The User Import file is designed to quickly enter multiple users into your device. Provided
below is the file format used to import your user information and examples of how each field
works. See “Adding Multiple Users” on page 30 for steps on how to create multiple users
with your User Import file.
User Import File format
Use the following format when entering your data into the User Import file.
username/password/group/rw/ro/deny:quota
All fields are required. If you would like to leave a field blank, leave a space between the
forwar
d slashes (/) for that field.
Field Definitions
Required Fields Definition Example
username User Name. Enter the name for your new user.
Joe Jones
password User Password: Enter a password for your new
user.

group Group Name: Enter the name of the group to
whic
h you would like to add the new user.
Note:
The Group must exist before you can add
a user to it. See “Adding a Group” on page
34 to create a new group.
Family
RW Read/Write Shares: Enter the shares you would
like the user to view and update. If you would
like to provide Read/Write access to more than
one share, separate the share names with an “:”
Public
RO Read Only Shares: Enter the shares you would

deny Deny Access: Enter those shares to which the
user will have no access.

quota Quota Amount (TB:GB:MB): Enter the quota
