Appendix 4: Troubleshooting System Problems
Device Problem Remedy
Code Pad
Code pad appears dead - no lights or sounds when keys are pressed.
1. Measure the output voltage at the Aux Pwr (+) terminals. Voltage should be above
12.8 volt dc.
2. Disconnect all devices connected to Aux Pwr (+) terminal leaving only the code pad
connected.
3. Check for short circuits on devices connected to Aux Pwr (+) terminals.
4. Check that AC power and battery are correctly connected to panel.
5. Check wiring and connections at code pad & panel.
Code pad lights appear OK, but no functions when the keys are pressed.
1. Check the user code you are entering is programmed on the system and is an
Arm/Disarm code.
2. Check the code pad No and Area No are set correctly. That is feature 94 in
section “Programming the code pad”.
Code pad jumps to area 2, chime turns off, or case tamper comes on by itself.

Check the code pad and expanders are new “E” versions (e.g. NX-216E, NX-148E).
Fire LED flashes rapidly.
1. Measure Aux Pwr (+) terminal. Voltage should be above 12.8 Volt DC.
2. Check Data wire is connected correctly at both ends.
3. Smoke detector circuit may have gone into alarm. Press 7 to reset.
4. Try connecting code pads one at a time and see if problem is related to a particular
code pad.
After exiting from program mode code pad will not accept key presses.
1. Wait 12 seconds after leaving program mode before entering key presses at the
code pad. The panel is enrolling all devices.
Unable to write custom messages to multiple LCD code pads on system.
1. Ensure you have individually set the code pad No(s) and Area No(s) for each code
pad. That is feature 94 in section Programming the Code Pad.
2. Enter and then exit program mode to enrol code pads.
3. Program custom messages on code pad 1.

Or enter Custom Messages menu, view any message and then exit.

Zones LED(s) flash rapidly, Arming and Disarming will not clear condition.
1. A zone tamper condition has occurred.
2. Press 7 to reset condition and clear rapid flashing LED’s.
3. If the zone is still in tamper the 7 will only clear the condition temporarily.
Starts beeping and you must enter a code to stop the beeps.
1. There is a system fault present. Press 2 to see why the system started beeping.
