Section 2 - Installation Powerline Installation Considerations Plan the location of your Powerline devices: 1. Connect Powerline devices to electrical outlets that are not controlled by a wall switch to avoid accidentally turning off power to the device. 2. Do not connect the Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter to an extension cord, surge protector, or power strip as this might prevent it from working correctly, or reduce the network performance. 3.
Section 2 - Installation Wireless Installation Considerations The D-Link wireless access point lets you access your network using a wireless connection from virtually anywhere within the operating range of your wireless network. Keep in mind that the number, thickness and location of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass through may limit the range. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of materials and background RF (radio frequency) noise in your home or business.
Section 2 - Installation Using the Setup Utility Follow the simple steps below to run the Setup Wizard to guide you quickly through the installation process. Insert the D-Link DHP-W307AV CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the CD Autorun function does not automatically start on your computer, click Start > Run. In the Run command box type “D:\autorun.exe”, where D: represents the drive letter of your CD-ROM. If it does start, proceed to the next screen.

Section 4 - Security Wireless Security This section will show you the different levels of security you can use to protect your data from intruders. The DHP-W306AV offers the following types of security: • WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) • WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) • WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) • WPA2-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) • WPA-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) What is WEP? WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy. It is based on the IEEE 802.11 standard and uses the RC4 encryption algorithm.
Section 4 - Security What is WPA? WPA, or Wi-Fi Protected Access, is a Wi-Fi standard that was designed to improve the security features of WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy). The 2 major improvements over WEP: • Improved data encryption through the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). TKIP scrambles the keys using a hashing algorithm and, by adding an integrity-checking feature, ensures that the keys haven’t been tampered with. WPA2 is based on 802.
