The Security Gigabit Switches offer a new generation of intelligence and defense
displayed through the delivery of its high performance, flexible expansion, and robust
security. They execute firm network security and come with ACL functionalities,
which secure the internal IT network against external viruses from invading the
LAN. Built on fan-less technology, these compact switches produce and emit less
heat and noise than the standard switches, and are ideal for office environments or
circumstances that require undisturbed silence.
These switches offer a complete list of endpoint security features to add confidence
and assurance towards your network. They come with user-based identity control by
implementing host-based 802.1x authentication/authorization, along with clientless
Web-based Access Control (WAC) and MAC-based Access Control (MAC) for easy
deployment. ACL user-defined functionality secures the internal IT network against
viruses and worms from invading the LAN to provide better security. IP-MAC-Port
Binding prevents ARP spoofing and man-in-middle attacks by disabling users from
manually configuring their own IP or MAC address, and allowing administrators to
assure that the IP information on the Syslog server or firewall log is correct. Other
security features like port security and traffic segmentation provide granular control
to business environments, allowing administrators to enhance network security.
D-Link’s joint security provides admission control and real-time defense through
Microsoft’s NAP (Network Access Protection) and D-Link’s ZoneDefense
respectively. D-Link’s built-in ZoneDefense technology allows businesses to
integrate their switch with D-Link’s NetDefend firewall to implement full coverage
and a proactive security architecture.

These Ethernet switches comprise the departmental access layer that can be seamlessly
integrated with the core of a network. Ideal for deployment at the network edge closer to
workstations for maximum scalability, these switches provide desktop users secure and
smooth access to a network and its servers while allowing them to be easily integrated
with other departmental workgroups via the core network backbone.
The access layer switches deliver performance, flexible expansion, robust security, and
multi-layer Quality of Service (QoS). Supporting D-Link’s Single IP Management, these
switches can be easily stacked and configured with any switches supporting D-Link’s
Single IP Management, including the xStack core switches, to form part of a multi-
level network structured with backbone and centralized high-speed servers. Without
any stacking cable, cable distance barrier and physical stacking method limitations, an
access layer stack can comprise units that are located anywhere on the same network
domain, eliminating the possibility of any single point of failure.
The access layer switches can be Layer 2 or Layer 3 switches. The Layer 2 switches
provide packet switching for departmental users while leaving higher level packet routing
to the core switches. The Layer 3 switches blend L2 packet switching with dynamic L3
IP routing to relieve the core switches of some workload and remove unnecessary traffic
from the network backbone and the server paths.
