5 Instructions
General Surface Prep
USE CHEMICAL-RESISTANT GLOVES, such as nitrile, when
handling product.
Wet areas must have proper sloping to drains. All surfaces must be
structurally sound, clean, dry and free from contaminants that would
prevent a good bond. Newly prepared concrete must be troweled
smooth and textured to a fine broom finish and cured for 24 hours. All
cracks must be filled. All cracks greater than 1/8" wide should be
prefilled with mortar, SpeedFinish(tm) Patching and Finishing
Compound or CUSTOM 100% Silicone Sealant before beginning the
waterproofing application.
Movement Joint Placement
Do not bridge joints designed to experience movement. Carry these
types of joints through the tile work. Follow TCNA, EJ171.

General Waterproofing
For General Waterproofing, apply one continuous coat of SpeedCoat at
a rate of 220 sq ft per gallon, to surface with a 1/4" smooth texture
roller. Inspect and repair any voids in coating before installation of
tile. Rough surfaces will reduce coverage rate, apply at a rate of 130
sq ft per gallon.
RedGard SpeedCoat at Drains
Drains should have a clamping ring with open weep holes for thin-set
application. Apply the RedGard SpeedCoat membrane to the bottom of
the flange. The drain should be fully supported, without movement,
and should be even with the plane of the substrate. Apply the RedGard
SpeedCoat membrane around drain and embed Waterproofing
Reinforcing Tape into the membrane, making sure it does not obstruct
the drainage weep holes. Alternatively, fill the gap between the
substrate and the drain flange with CUSTOM 100% Silicone Sealant.
After the sealant is tacky to the touch, approximately 10 minutes, apply
an initial coat of the membrane. When dry, apply an additional coat of
the membrane. NOTE: Apply membrane over Silicone Caulk within 3
hours. Membrane will not adhere to silicone when applied on next day.
After curing, clamp the upper flange onto the membrane and tighten.
Use a rapid curing urethane caulk around the flange where the
membrane and the upper flange make contact. A toilet flange can be
treated in much the same manner.
ApplyingRedGard®SpeedCoatWaterproofMembrane(ANSI
118.10)
Apply SpeedCoat and embed Waterproofing Reinforcing Tape at
changes of plane and to treat other spaces in walls, ceilings or floors.
Alternately, use CUSTOM 100% Silicone Sealant in place of fabric.
Apply SpeedCoat membrane over silicone when it has become tacky.
SMOOTH SURFACES: Stir product by hand before using. Do not dilute.
ApplyRedGard®SpeedCoatusinga1/4"(6mm)smoothtextured
synthetic roller or flat steel trowel over the entire area to be treated.
Apply two coats at 6 mils each over a 110 ft2 area for proper coverage
of an IAPMO shower pan creating a continuous, even film with
overlapping strokes. Inspect the film for integrity and fill any voids or
pinholes with additional material.
