MANUAL CHOKE SYSTEM
1. If equipped, ensure the fuel shut-off valve (a) is in the “ON”
position (Figure 6).
2. Pull out the choke knob (b) located on the engine.
NOTE: Use of the choke may not be necessary if the engine is
warm or the air temperature is high.
3. Press engine switch (c) to “ON”.
4. Pull the recoil starter handle lightly until resistance is felt,
then pull rapidly to overcome compression, prevent kickback
and start engine. If engine does not start after ten seconds of
repeated pulls, wait 5 minutes and repeat.
IMPORTANT: Do not allow the recoil starter handle to snap
back against the rope guide. Return it gently to prevent
damage to the starter.
5. When engine warms up, push in the choke knob.

Stopping Engine
1. Release blade control or turn off the engine switch (if
equipped).
2. (Electric Start units only) Remove Electric Starter Push
Key if mower is to be left unattended, stored, or serviced.
To remove key, grasp the key’s top push button and pull it
straight up and out. Keep key in a safe place out of the reach
of children.
Boost mode
NOTE: Quiet mode is engaged when the boost mode lever is in
the up position.
3. With the engine running, Perform one of the following:
• Engaging Boost Mode - Push the boost mode lever down
to the engaged (BOOST) position.
• Disengaging the Boost Mode - Lift the boost mode lever
up to the disengaged (QUIET) position.

Electronic Governor Control
(If Equipped)
NOTE: The electronic governor control (governor switch) is used
to select the engine speed. Engine speed can be set with or
without the engine running.
1. Perform the following to select engine speed (Figure 8):
a. Low Speed - Press the governor switch towards the
mower to select the LOW SPEED setting.
b. Hi Speed - Press the governor switch away from the
mower to select the HI SPEED setting.
