7. Movethedecklift leverintothe top notchon theright
fenderto raisedecklift armsupandout of the way.
8. Carefullyslidethe cuttingdeckforwardandremove
the deckbelt fromaroundthe tractor'sPTOpulleyon
the bottomof the engine.
9. Continueto rollthe decktowardthefrontof the tractor
until the frontdeckhangerrodcanbe removedfrom °
the slotsof the hangerbracketat thefrontof the deck.
10.Whileholdingthe frontdeckhangerrodupwarduntil
it clearsthe hangerbracketonthe frontof the deck,
carefullyslidethedeckout fromthe rightside of the
tractor.

WARNING:Besuretoshuttheengine
off,removeignition key,disconnect
thesparkplugwire(s) to preventun-
intendedstartingbeforeremovingthe
cuttingblade(s)for sharpeningor re-
placement.Protectyourhandsbyusing
heavyglovesor a ragto graspthecut-
tingblade.
WARNING:Periodicallyinspect the
bladespindlesfor cracksordamage,
especiallyifyoustrikea foreign object.
Replaceimmediatelyif damaged.
The bladesmaybe removedas follows.
Removethe deckfrombeneaththetractor,(referto
CuttingDeck Removalonpage24)thengentlyflip the
deckoverto exposeits underside.
A blockof woodmaybeplacedbetweenthe deck
housingandthe cuttingedgeof the bladeto helpin
breakingloosethehex nut securingthe blade.See
Figure24.

Useawrenchto loosenthehexflangenutthatsecures
thebladetothe spindle.Holdingthebladeontothestar
hubof thespindle,orusinga secondwrenchto hold
thenutatthetopof thespindle,securethe spindleand
removetheflangenutandcuttingblade.Repeatto
removetheotherthreeblades.
Toproperlysharpenthe cuttingblades,remove
equalamountsof metalfrombothendsof the blades
alongthe cuttingedges,parallelto the trailingedge,
at a 25oto 30oangle.
IMPORTANT:Ifthe cuttingedgeof thebladehas
alreadybeensharpenedto within 15/8"fromthe edge,
or if anymetalseparationis present,replacetheblades
withnewones.SeeFigure25.

It is importantthateachcuttingbladeedgebe
groundequallyto maintainproperbladebalance.
A poorlybalancedbladewill causeexcessive
vibrationand maycausedamageto thetractorand
resultinpersonalinjury.The bladecan betested
by balancingit ona roundshaftscrewdriver.Grind
metalfromthe heavyside untilit balancesevenly.
Whenreplacingtheblade,be sureto installthe
bladewiththe side of the blademarked"Bottom"(or
witha part numberstampedin it) facingthe ground
whenthe moweris inthe operatingposition.
IMPORTANT:Usea torquewrenchto tightenthe blade
spindlehexflangenutto between70foot-poundsand
90foot-pounds.

Shut tractor engine
off, removeignition
key,and disconnect
the spark plugwire(s)
before proceeding
with job. Protect
