Battery
Thebatteryis sealedandis maintenance-free,Acid
levelscannotbe checked,
° Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalsclean
andfreeof corrosivebuild-up,
Aftercleaningthe batteryandterminals,apply a light
coatof petroleumjelly or greaseto bothterminals.
Alwayskeepthe rubberboot positionedoverthe
positiveterminalto preventshorting,
IMPORTANT:If removingthebatteryfor anyreason,
disconnectthe NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromit'sterminal
FIRST,followedby thePOSITIVE(Red)wire,When
re-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE
(Red)wire itsterminalfirst,followedby the NEGATIVE
(Black)wire,Becertainthatthewiresareconnectedto
thecorrectterminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe
polarityandresultindamageto yourengine'salternating
system.
Charging
If the tractorhas not beenput into usefor anextended
periodof time,chargethe batterywith anautomotive-
type 12-voltchargerfor aminimumof onehour at six
amps.

Jump Starting

installingthe battery,follow thesein-
structionsto preventthe screwdriver
from shortingagainsttheframe.
IMPORTANT:Neverjump yourtractor'sdeadbattery
withthe batteryof a runningvehicle,
1, Connectendof onejumpercableto the positive
terminalof the goodbattery,thenthe otherendto
the positiveterminalof the deadbattery,
2, Connectthe otherjurnpercableto the negative
terminalof the goodbattery,thento the frame of the
unit with the dead battery.
WARNING:Failureto usethisproce-
durecouldcausesparking,andthe
gasineitherbatterycouldexplode.
Cleaning the Battery
Cleanthe batterybyremovingit fromthe tractorand
washingwitha bakingsodaandwatersolution,If neces-
sary,scrapethe batteryterminalswitha wire brushto
removedeposits,Coatterminalsandexposedwiringwith
greaseor petroleumjelly to preventcorrosion,
Battery Failures
Somecommoncausesfor batteryfailureare:
°incorrectinitialactivation ° undercharging
°overcharging
• corrodedconnections
* freezing
ThesefailuresareNOTcoveredbyyourtractor's
warranty.
Cutting Deck Removal
Toremovethe cuttingdeck, proceedasfollows:
1, DisengagethePTO(BladeEngage)andengagethe
parkingbrake.
2, Placethedeckgaugewheelsintheir highestsetting
(lowestdecksetting).
3, Lowerthe deckby movingthedecklift leverintothe
bottomnotchonthe rightfender.
4, Lookingat the cuttingdeckfromthe leftsideof the
tractor,locatethedeck supportpinonthe rearleft
sideof thedeck. SeeFigure23,

5, Pullthedeck supportpinoutwardto releasethe deck

6, Moveto the rightside of the tractorand pullthe deck
