Spark Plug(s)
Every100hoursof operation,removethesparkplugs.
Checkthereconditionand resetthe gap,or replacewith
newplugs.
Beforeremovingthesparkplug,cleanthe area
aroundthe baseof the plugtoe keepdirt anddebris
out of theengine.
Removetheplugandcheck itscondition.Replace
the plugif wornor reuseis questionable.
NOTE: Donot cleanthe sparkplugin a machineusing
abrasivegrit. Somegrit could remaininthe spark
plugandenterthe enginecausingextensivewearand
damage.
Checkthegap usinga wire feelergauge.Adjustthe
gapto .030in. (0.76ram)by carefullybendingthe
groundelectrode.SeeFigure20.

Reinstallthe sparkpluginto thecylinderhead.
Torquethe sparkplugto 18-22ft. Ibs. (24.4-
29.8N.m).
Engine Cooling
Toensurepropercooling,makesurethe grassscreen,
coolingfins, andotherexternalsurfacesof theengine
arekeptcleanat alltimes.
Every100hoursof operation(moreoftenunder
extremelydusty,dirtyconditions),removethe blower
housingandothercoolingshrouds.Cleanthe cooling
finsandexternalsurfacesas necessary.Makesurethe
coolingshroudsare properlyreinstalled.
Carburetor
In compliancewithgovernmentemissionstandards,the
carburetoris calibratedto deliverthecorrectfuel-to-air
mixtureto the engineunderalloperatingconditions.
Thehighspeedmixtureis setat the factoryandcannot
beadjusted.
If enginetroublesareexperiencedthatappearto be fuel
systemrelated,checkthe followingareas:
Makesurethefuel tankis filledwithclean,fresh
gasoline.Makesurethefuel tankventis not blocked.
Makesurethein-linefuelfilteris cleanand unob-
structed.Replacethefilter if necessary.
Makesuretheair cleanerelementis cleanandallair
cleanerelementcomponentsare fastenedsecurely.
If aftercheckingtheaboveitemsthe engineis hardto
start,runs roughly,stalls,or lackspower,contactyour
CubCadetdealerto havethecarburetorandfuel pump
inspected.
Fuel Line
Changethe fuel linefilterafterevery100hoursof opera-
tion.Thefuel filteris locatedonthe left sideof the engine
inthe fuel line. Notethe orientationof thefilterto install
the newfiltercorrectly.
Placeacontainerbelowthe filterto catchany spilled
gasolineandcarefullyclampthe fuel lines.
Loosenthe hoseclampsto removeand replacethe
filter.
Lubrication
WARNING:Beforelubricating,repairing,
or inspecting, alwaysdisengagePTO,set
parkingbrake,stopengineandremove
keytopreventunintendedstarting.
Steering
Thesteeringarms,pivotshafts,andaxlesmust belubri-
catedafterevery25 hourof operation.Lubricateusinga
pressuregreasegunandCubCadet251HEPgrease,or
anequivalentNo.2 multipurposelithiumgrease.
Applygreasethroughthe lubefitting onthe RHand
LH steeringarmswhichare locatedat rearwardendof
the twosteeringdrag links.See Figure21.

the frontof oneend of the axlepivotbar.Applygrease
throughthe twolubefittings,then repeatto lubricate
the shaftandaxle at the otherend of the pivotbar.

Lubricatethe frontwheelbearingswithCubCadet251H
EPgreaseafterevery25hoursof operation.The lube
fittingsare locatedinthe rim hubinsideeachfrontwheel.
