IMPORTANT:Whenstoppingthe tractorforany reason
whileona grasssurface,always
* Placethe shiftleverin neutral,
. Engagethe parkingbrake,
. Shutengineoff andremovethe key.
Doingso will minimizethe possibilityof havingyourlawn
"browned"byhot exhaustfromyourtractor'srunning
engine.
Mulching
Thei1000seriestractordecksareequippedwitha
mulchingkit. Themulchkitwhichincorporatesspecial
blades,alreadyon yourtractor,ina processof recirculating
grassclippingsrepeatedlybeneaththe cuttingdeck.The
ultra-fineclippingsarethenforcedbackintothe lawnwhere
theyactas a naturalfertilizer.
Observethefollowingpointsfor bestresultswhenmulching:
. Neverattemptto mulchif the lawnis damp.Wetgrass
tendsto stickto the undersideof the cuttingdeck
preventingpropermulchingof the clippings.
. Do notattemptto mulchmorethan 1/3the totalheight
of the grassor approximately1-1/2inches.Doingso
will causethe clippingsto clumpup beneaththe deck
andnot bemulchedeffectively.
. Maintaina slowgroundspeedto allowthe grass
clippingsmoretimetoeffectivelybe mulched.
. AlwayspositionthrottlecontrolleverintheFAST(rabbit)
positionandallowit toremaintherewhilemowing.Failing
tokeeptheengineatfullthrottleplacesstrainonthe
tractor'sengineanddoesnotallowthebladestoproperly
mulchgrass.
NOTE: It is not necessaryto removethe chutedeflector
to operatethe mowerwiththe mulchpluginstalled.
• Themulchpluginstalledatthefactorywasremoved
earlierinthe"SettingupyourLawnTractor"section.To
reinstallthemulchingplug,proceedasfollows:

• Raiseandholdthechutedeflectorinupposition.
° Locatethe1/4inchholeinthetopofthemulchingplug.
Withtheholefacingupwardinsertthemulchingplugfully
intothedischargeopeningofthedeck.
° Alignthemulchingplugholewiththeholeinthetopof the
deckdischarge.Insertthecarriageboltthroughthetopof
thedeckandthemulchingplugandsecurewiththewing
nut.Referto Figure2onpage9
Installing Mulching Plug on 50" Decks ONLY
• Pivotthechutedeflectorup to accessthe deck
dischargeopening.
° Locatetwonotchesinthechutedeflectorhingebracket
abovethedeckdischargeopening.
° Insertthemulchplugintothedeckdischargeopening.
Makesurethetwotabsonthetopoftheplugareinthe
notchesofthehingebracket.Lightlytap on the plugwith
yourhandto assurethatthe tabsfitsnuglyintothe
notches.
° Whileholdingthe mulchingplugin position,fullylower
the chutedeflector.
WARNING:Themowingdeckis capable
