WARNING
If you strikea foreign
object, stop the
engine, disconnect
the spark plug
wire(s) anti ground
against the engine.
Thoroughly inspect
the machinefoi any
damage. Repair dam-
age before restarting.
Donotleavethe seat

first placingthe PTO
leverinthe disen-
gaged(BladeStop)
position,depressing
the brakepedaland
engagingthe parking
brake.If leavingthe
tractorunattended,
alsoturnthe ignition
keyoffand remove
the key.
Starting the Engine
NOTE: Referto the TRACTORSET-UPonpage7 of this
manualfor gasolineandoil fill-upinstructions,
1, Insertthe tractorkeyinto the keyswitchmodule.
2, Disengagethe PTO(BladeEngage)lever/knob,
3, Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake,
4, Pullthechokecontrolknoboutwardintothe full choke
position(awarmenginemaynot requirechoking),
5, Movethe throttlecontrolleverto midwaybetweenthe
SLOWand FASTpositions,
5, Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwisetothe STARTposition,
Aftertheenginestarts,releasethekey,Itwill returnto
the NORMALMOWINGposition.
IMPORTANT:Do not holdthe keyin the STARTposition
for longerthanten secondsat a time, Doingso maycause
damageto yourengine'selectricstarter.
6, Aftertheenginestarts,graduallypushthechokeknob
fullyinwardasthe enginewarmsup,
NOTE: Do not usethe chokecontrolto enrichthe fuel
mixture,exceptas necessaryto start andwarmupthe
engine,
If leavingthe tractorunattended,alsoturn the
ignitionkeyoff and removethe key,
Do not mowon slopeinexcessof 15degrees(a rise
of approximately2-1/2feetevery10feet),
Planyourmowingpatternto avoiddischargeof
materialstowardroads,sidewalks,bystandersand
the like,Also,avoiddischargingmaterialagainst
a wallor obstructionwhichmaycausedischarged
materialto ricochetbacktowardtheoperator.
Stopping the Engine
___# ARNING: Ifyoustrikea foreignob-

1, If the bladesareengaged,disengagethePTO,
2, Movethe throttlecontrolleverto midwaybetweenthe
halfand fullthrottle.Thenturntheignitionkeycounter-
clockwisetotheOFFposition.
3, Removethekeyfromthe ignitionswitchto prevent
unintendedstarting.
Driving The Tractor
IMPORTANT:Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand
suddenstops.
° Brieflydepressthe brakepedalto releasethe
parkingbrake.Movethe throttleleverintothe
FAST(rabbit)position,
Totravelforward:Slowlydepressthe upperportion
of the drivepedalforwarduntilthe desiredspeed
is achieved,SeeFigure7,
Totravelin reverse:Checkthattheareabehindis
clear,thenslowlydepressthe lowerportionof the
drivepedalwiththe ballof yourfoot(notyour heel)
untilthe desiredspeedisachieved,SeeFigure7,
° Releasethe drive pedalanddepressthe brake
pedalto stopthe tractor.

IMPORTANT:Do not usethe drivepedalto changethe
directionof travelwhenthe tractoris in motion.Always
bringthetractorto a completestopbeforepivotingthe
drivepedalfromforwardto reverseorviceversa,
