FLAT-PANEL PLASMA • REAR-PROJECTION LCD & DLP
Pioneer’s PDP-4330HD was
the world’s first “progressive
display” high-def plasma
panel in the 42-43" screen
size. Imagine movies and
sports in crystal-clear HDTV
(separate HDTV tuner
required, see pg. 146) —
viewed on an ultra-thin panel
that can hang on the wall!
Pioneer’s Deep-Encased Cell
Structure increases overall
panel brightness while reduc-
ing the leakage of light and
color between neighboring
pixels. For maximum versatil-
ity, an outboard “Media
Receiver” functions as the
tuner (for analog NTSC signals)
and A/V switching center, and also converts
all incoming signals to the panel’s native resolution for
the best possible picture. One dual-wire “umbilical cord”
connects the Media Receiver to the TV screen, giving you
a clean-looking picture and a clean-looking installation!

Panasonic • 42" integrated plasma TV
Value probably isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you’re
looking at plasma TVs, but where it counts, Panasonic’s well-built
TH-42PA20 holds its own against much more expensive models.
This 42" has EDTV (Enhanced Definition TV) picture resolution
— it can display signals up to 480p, like from a progressive-scan
DVD player. Sources ranging from low quality (VHS) to high (DVD)
are automatically upconverted to 480p by the excellent built-in
“scaler.” With its bright, flicker-free picture, this TV actually looks
better with these kinds of signals than some HD-capable plasmas
because the scaler has less work to do. Widescreen DVDs are simply
riveting! And if HDTV signals are available in your area, you can
watch them in downconverted form on this TV. Just set your HDTV
tuner to output a 480p signal and get ready for the cleanest, clearest
non-HD picture you’ve ever seen! The compelling picture is due to
Panasonic’s superior plasma technology, which provides some of
the deepest blacks, highest contrast ratio, and smoothest grayscaling
you’ll see anywhere. You will love this TV!

Plasma is ready
for prime time!
Since their introduction several
years ago, flat-panel plasma TVs
have always been undeniably cool.
But until recently, they haven’t
been a practical choice in many
homes. The models available were
commercial plasma monitors with
no built-in speakers or TV tuner.
But manufacturers have seen the
light. All of our plasma models
have complete TV functionality,
with speakers and an NTSC tuner.
Plasma (and LCD) screens are
often referred to as “fixed pixel”
displays. What this means is that
they create images via a flat grid
of pixels, instead of employing an
electron gun and picture tube to
draw an image made of scanning
lines. A plasma panel has a thin
layer of pixels right behind the
screen. Each pixel is composed of
three gas-filled cells or sub-pixels
(one each for red, green and
blue). A grid of tiny electrodes
applies an electric current to the
individual cells. The ionized gas
(plasma) emits UV rays, which
makes each pixel phosphor glow.
Plasma advantages: Perfect
image focus and geometry, a high,
even light output, and the ability
to produce over 16 million colors.

Sanus • VMPL Universal tilt wall bracket for plasma & LCD TVs
Sanus’ VisionMount VMPL tilt wall-mount bracket is designed to safely and securely
support large flat-panel displays (32"-60"). Some tilt brackets require tools to adjust the
angle, but Sanus’ Virtual Axis
™
technology allows variable angle adjustment with just
the touch of a finger. Simple but strong, the VMPL doesn’t require a mounting plate
for the display, and provides 15
º
tilt capability. Stud-mounting required.
