MICROPHONES — Installed Sound: Conference (part 2 of 2)
PCC-170
Table-Mounted Half-Supercardioid
The PCC-170’s surface-mount, half-supercardioid design is
equally adept in the boardroom, at the lectern, or for teleconfer-
encing. Provides clear, natural sound free of phase interference
from table sound reflections. Available in two versions: black
(PCC-170) or white (PCC-170W).
Element Type: Electret Condenser
Frequency Response: 50 Hz to 20 kHz
Polar Pattern: Half-Supercardioid
Impedance: 150 ohms
Sensitivity: 22 mV/Pa
PCC-170SW, PCC-170SWO
PCC-170 with Programmable On-Off Switch
The PCC-170SW gives you the unique ability to program it for
three modes of operation via a silent-operating membrane
switch that can be configured for touch on/off, momentary on, or
momentary off. A base-mounted, 1/4-inch stereo phone plug
version is also available as the PCC-170SWSPP.
The PCC-170SWO includes all the features of the PCC-170SW,
and adds remote sensing via a patented opto-coupled MOS
switching circuit. A pair of extra leads in the mic cable allows
remote sensing of the switch closure.
PCC-130, PCC-130SW
Small Table-Mounted Half-Cardioid
The PCC-130 features exceptional performance in a package
only about half the size of the PCC-170. When the situation sim-
ply demands that a mic be heard but not seen, the PCC-130
gives you an obvious choice. Its half-cardioid pattern reduces
background noise, reverb, and feedback. The PCC-130 is also
available in white as the PCC-130W. A base-mounted, 1/4-inch
stereo phone plug version is also available as the PCC-130SPP,
and in white as the PCC-130WSPP.
Element Type: Electret Condenser
Frequency Response: 50 Hz to 20 kHz
Polar Pattern: Half-cardioid
Impedance: 150 ohms
Sensitivity: 22 mV/Pa
Similar in size and performance to the PCC-130, the
PCC-130SW has a silent-operating membrane switch
that can be programmed for touch on/off, momentary
on, or momentary off. It has a half-supercardioid
polar pattern. A base-mounted, 1/4-inch stereo
phone plug version is also available as the

MIC TIPS
Conference Miking with PZMs
If your conference room is acoustically
dead, you might be able to mike the confer-
ence successfully with just a few Pressure
Zone Microphones.
Unlike PCC
®
and MB microphones which
are unidirectional, PZMs are omnidirection-
al. Each PZM picks up sound from all
around with its hemispherical polar pattern.
You can use PZMs when the room
acoustics are dead, and you are willing to
pick up several people with one micro-
phone. Since you will need only a few PZMs
to do the job, the cost of installation will be
lower.
If the conference table is no more than 4
feet square, use a single PZM
®
of your
choice in the center of the table. If the table
is long, use two or three PZMs in the middle
of every 4 to 6 people.
Use PCCs or MBs when the room acoustics
are live, when you want individual pickup of
the participants, or when you want to switch
the mics on and off.
Ceiling-mounted microphones work well for
recording but do not provide enough gain-
before-feedback when used for sound rein-
forcement. If you need sound reinforcement
of the meeting, Crown recommends table-
mounted PZMs, PCCs or MBs.
