FREQUENCY RESPONSE AND TONE QUALITY
A flat frequency response indicates a natural tonal balance at 2
feet from the sound source, while a response rising at the high
frequencies indicates a brighter sound with emphasized treble.
Sometimes a rising response is intentional to enhance clarity,
or to make loud instruments sound natural when heard at a
less-than-live listening volume.
In some microphones, the low frequencies are intentionally
rolled off to reduce air-conditioning rumble or to reduce boomi-
ness when the microphone is used up close.
