2.5 Alternative: Choose Input Wire
and Connectors
Crown recommends using pre-bui lt or professionally wi red
balanced line (two-conductor plus shield) , 22-24 gauge
cables and connectors. At the amplifier inputs, use two
3-pin Ph oenix-style connectors (see Figure 2.5).
Unbalanced lines may be used , but may result in hum or RF
noise over long cable runs.
NOTE: Custom wiring should only be performed by
qualified personnel.
2.6 Choose Output Wire and Connectors
Crown recommends u sin g pre -b uilt or professio n ally
wired, high-quality, two-conductor, heavy gau ge
speaker wire an d sp ade lug copnnectors or bare wire for
your output connectors (F igure 2.6). To prevent the
possibility of short-circuits, w rap or otherwise insulate
exposed loudspeaker cable co nn ectors.
Using the guidelines below, select the appro pr iate size
of wire based on the distance from amplifie r to speaker.

CAUTION: Never use shielded cable for output
