Trim
Application
Any trim application should be based on:
• Gap size that needs to be bridged
• Siding material
• Matching other exterior features
General guidelines and examples of using our “trim-
out” products follow.
1. No matter which trim product is used, start by apply-
ing self-adhesive weather barrier tape (FIGURE 1).
2. Cut tape to the width of the gap. Sill and head
pieces go full width. Side pieces go full height. Tape
must be applied in proper sequence – sill piece first,
side pieces next, and head piece last.
3. Aluminum extender’s short leg fits into the window’s
exterior accessory groove (FIGURE 2). Here it is
being fit to cover a gap at the sill. To use the exten-
der, measure from the accessory groove to the sid-
ing, rip the aluminum extender to this width, and tap
in place with a soft hammer and wood block.
4. The extender and pvc brickmould can be used
together (FIGURE 3) to achieve a different look.
5. The same combination of extender and brickmould
can be used on the sides or head (FIGURE 4).
(Weather barrier tape left off to show nailing surface
under brickmould).
IMPORTANT:
All fasteners that attach trim to
framing must penetrate framing members at least
1-1/2".
