Pocket Replacement Window Installation Instructions
Opening Preparation – Wood Frame Building
IMPORTANT:
High-quality, exterior, neutral-
cure, clear, silicone sealant (compatible with win-
dow materials and exterior face of the wall) is to
be used for all procedures in the following
instructions which call for caulking or sealant.
IMPORTANT: Check to make sure you have the
correct window type (casement, tilt, awning etc.)
and the correct size window (width and height) for
your opening.
1. Measure the opening (FIGURE 1) to ensure that it
is not more than or 1/2" wider in overall width and
1/2" taller in overall height than the “Frame Width”
or “Frame Height” in (FIGURES 2 & 3). Measure
across the old window jambs for width. Measure
height from just in front of the stool and out at the
outside head stop.
2. Make sure walls are plumb and not twisted.
Measure opening diagonals (FIGURE 4).
Measurements should not vary by more than 1/4".
Check level and plumb. Make corrections to ensure
walls are plumb, straight, and sound.
IMPORTANT: Old window frame and outside
stops must be securely fastened to the rough
opening framing. If side jambs, head jamb, sill or
stops are loose; fasten securely in place with nails
or long screws that will reach into the framing
members. Double check components for level,
plumb and square. Fix any problems before
proceeding.
