En_Inspire5700-lic.book Page 2 Tuesday, September 18, 2001 8:33 AM 13 15 14 16 17 Figure 1-2: Decoder Amplifier Rear Panel View Turning On Your Decoder Amplifier The red Standby LED (next to the POWER button) lights up when the power adapter is connected to a power outlet or when the power supply is turned on. Press the Power button to turn on the Decoder Amplifier. The default mode is Optical. Future settings are retained as long as the decoder is connected to the power supply.

When set to “On”, the red Standby LED turns off and the blue Standby LED on the MASTER volume knob illuminates. 2 SUBWOOFER, CENTER Adjusts the volume level of the indicated channels. Their output level should be adjusted to balance with the fixed output of the Front Left and Front Right speakers.

This LED illuminates whenever a Dolby Surround encoded program material is detected from a digital source, or when the Digital Pro Logic ON/OFF button (see 9 in Figure 1-1 on page 1) is depressed. DTS LED Detects a DTS source.

Input 16 SPEAKER Outputs Connects the speakers found in your package to these sockets. See the Quick Reference Guide for more information on connecting your speakers. 17 SUBWOOFER LINE Use this to connect the decoder to an active subwoofer.

This chapter describes the response of your Decoder Amplifier when Digital Theater System (DTS) and various Dolby programs are channeled through your Decoder Amplifier. It has to be used with the corresponding Decoder input selections. This mode is usually used with Creative Sound Blaster series audio cards. The Dolby Pro Logic processor should be disabled in this mode.

DTS Digital Surround DTS Digital Surround® is a discrete 5.1 channel digital audio format that delivers five discrete full-range channels (left, center, right, left surround and right surround) plus a seperate Low Frequency Effects (LFE) channel.

Excessive center channel output will result, and most of the stereo effect will be lost. Use CMSS Movie or Music modes to upmix stereo programs to a realistic 5.1-channel soundfield. Creative Multi Speaker Surround (CMSS) CMSS is a 2-channel to 5.1-channel sound processor similar in some aspects to a Dolby Surround Pro Logic processor.
