7. Whendisconnectingthe extensioncord,alwaysunplugtheend
at the three-prongwall outletbeforeunpluggingthe oppositeend
fromthe snowthrower.
Recoil Starter
1. Rotatechokecontrolto FULL IJl chokeposition(coldengine
start).
NOTE: Ifthe engineis alreadywarm, placechokecontrolintheOFF
insteadof FULLIJ|.

2. Pushthe primertwoorthreetimes forcold enginestart,making
sureto coverventholeinthe centerofthe primerwhenpushing.
NOTE: DONOTuseprimerto restartawarmengineaftera short
shutdown.
NOTE:Additionalprimingmaybe necessaryif the temperatureis
below15° Fahrenheit.
3. Graspthe recoilstarterhandleandslowlypullthe ropeout.At the
pointwhereit becomesslightlyharderto pullthe rope,slowly
allowthe ropeto recoil.
4. Pullthe starterhandlewitha firm,rapidstroke.Do notrelease
the handleandallowit to snapback.Keepa firmholdon the
starterhandleandallow it to slowlyrecoil.
5. As the enginewarms,slowlyrotatethe chokecontrolto theOFF
position.Ifthe enginefalters,quicklyrotatethe chokecontrol
backto the FULL I,_1 positionandthenslowlyinto the OFF
positionagain.
NOTE:Allowthe engineto warmupfor afew minutesafterstarting.
The enginewill notdevelopfull poweruntilit reachesoperating
temperatures.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Runenginefor a fewminutesbeforestoppingto helpdry off any
moistureonthe engine.

2. Removethe ignitionkeyandstoreina safeplace.
3. Wipeall snowandmoisturefromthe areaaroundthe engineas
wellas the areainand aroundthe drivecontrolandaugercontrol.
Also,engageandreleasebothcontrolsseveraltimes.
TO ENGAGE DRIVE
1. Withthethrottlecontrolinthe Fast_ position,moveshiftlever
intooneof the six forward(F) positionsor tworeverse(R)
positions.Selecta speedappropriatefor thesnowconditionsand
a paceyou'recomfortablewith.
NOTE: Whenselectinga DriveSpeed,usethe slowerspeedsuntil
you arecomfortableandfamiliarwiththeoperationofthe snow
thrower.
2. Squeezethe drivecontrolagainstthe handlethesnowthrower
will move.Releaseit anddrivemotionwill stop.
NOTE:NEVERrepositionthe shift lever(changespeedsor direction
of travel)withoutfirst releasingthedrive controlandbringingthesnow
throwerto a completestop.Doingso will resultin prematurewearto
the snowthrower'sdrivesystem.
TO ENGAGE AUGERS
1. Toengagethe augersandstartthrowingsnow,squeezethe
augercontrolagainstthe lefthandle.Releasetostopthe augers.
REPLACING SHEAR PiNS
The augersaresecuredto thespiralshaftwithtwoshearpinsandcot-
ter pins.if theaugershouldstrikea foreignobjector ice jam,the snow
throweris designedso thatthe shearpinsmayshear.Ifthe augerswill
notturn,checkto see if the pins havesheared.SeeFigure12.
NEVERreplacethe augershearpinswith anythingotherthanOEM
Part No.738-04124Areplacementshearpins.Any damagetothe
augergearboxorothercomponentsas a resultof failingto do sowill
NOTbecoveredbyyour snowthrower'swarranty.
Alwaysturnoffthe snowthrower'sengineand removethe keypriortc
replacingshearpins.
