CLEAN-OUT TOOL NOTE:A plasticdustcap maybefound insidethe fuelfill opening.
Removeanddiscard,if present.
Neveruseyourhandsto cleara cloggedchuteassembly.Shut
off engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilallmovingpartshave
stoppedbeforeunclogging.
Thechuteclean-outtoolis convenientlyfastenedtothe rearof the
augerhousingwitha mountingclip. Shouldsnowandicebecome
lodgedin the chuteassemblyduringoperation,proceedas followsto
safelycleanthechuteassemblyandchuteopening:
1. ReleaseboththeAugerControlandthe DriveControl.
2. Stopthe engineby removingthe ignitionkey.
3. Removethe clean-outtool fromthe clip whichsecuresit to the
rearof the augerhousing.
4. Usetheshovel-shapedendof the clean-outtoolto dislodgeand
scoopany snowandice whichhasformedin andnearthechute
assembly.
5. Refastenthe clean-outtool to the mountingclip on therearof
theaugerhousing,reinsertthe ignitionkeyandstartthesnow
thrower'sengine.
6. Whilestandinginthe operator'sposition(behindthesnow
thrower),engagethe augercontrolfora fewsecondsto clearany
remainingsnowandice fromthechuteassembly.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
Read,understand,andfollowall instructionsandwarningsonthe
machineand inthis manualbeforeoperating.
Oil
Theunit wasshippedwithoil inthe engine.Checkoil levelbeforeeach
operationto ensureadequateoil inthe engine.Forfurtherinstructions,
referto the stepsonpage 17.
1. Removethe dipstickfromthe oilfill.
2. Checkandmakesurethatthe levelof oil is upto theFULLmark
onthe dipstick.
3. If theoil levelis notupto FULL,pourfreshmotoroil (5W-30,with
a minimumclassificationof SL/SJ)slowlythroughthe opening.
Replaceoil fill dipstickandcheckoil levelagain.
Gasoline
Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableandthe vaporsareexplosive.Neverfuel the machine
indoorsor whilethe engineis hot or running.Extinguishcigarettes,
[c gars,ppesand othersourcesof gnt on.
,, Storegasolinein aclean,approvedcontainerandkeepthe capin
placeonthe container.
,, Makesurethatthe containerfromwhichyou pourthe gasolineis
cleanandfreefromrustor otherforeignparticles.
,, Alwaysfill thefuel tankoutdoorsand usea funnelorspoutto
preventspilling.
,, Fillfuel tankwithclean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.
,, Neverfill thefuel tankcompletely.Fillthe tankto within1/2"from
the top to providespaceforexpansionoffuel.
,, Makesureto wipeoff anyspilledfuel beforestartingthe engine.
STARTING THE ENGINE
1. Attachsparkplugwire tosparkplug.Makecertainthe metal
loopon theend of the sparkplugwire(insidethe rubberboot)is
fastenedsecurelyoverthe metaltip onthesparkplug.
2. Makecertainboththe augercontrolanddrivecontrolarein the
disengaged(released)position.
3. Movethrottlecontrolupto FAST_ position.Insertignitionkey
intoslot. Makesureit snapsinto place.Donot attemptto turnthe
key.
NOTE:The enginecannotstart withoutthe keyis fullyinsertedintothe
ignitionswitch.
Electric Starter
Determinethatyourhome'swiringis a three-wiregroundedsystem.
Aska licensedelectricianif you arenot certain.
The optionalelectricstarteris equippedwitha groundedthree-wire
powercordandplug,and is designedto operateon 120voltAC
householdcurrent.It mustbe usedwith aproperlygroundedthree-
prongreceptacleat all timesto avoidthepossibilityof electricshock.
Followall instructionscarefullypriorto operatingthe electricstarter.
Ifyou havea groundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedas follows:
1. Plugthe extensioncord intothe outletlocatedontheengine's
surface.Plugtheotherend of extensioncordintoathree-prong
120-volt,grounded,ACoutletina well-ventilatedarea.
2. Rotatechokecontrolto FULL I,.#'1chokeposition(foracold
enginestart).
NOTE:If theengineis alreadywarm,placechokecontrolin the OFF
positioninsteadof FULL IJl •
3. Pushtheprimertwoor threetimesfor coldenginestart, making
sureto coverventholeinthe centerof the primerwhenpushing.
NOTE:DO NOTuse primerto restarta warmengineaftera short
shutdown.
4. Pushstarterbuttonto start engine.
NOTE:Do not holdthe buttondownforlongerthanseven(7)seconds
at a time. Doingso maydamageyourengine'selectricstarter.
