Throttle/ ChokeControl ShiftLever Thethrottlecontrolleverislocatedon the left fenderof the tractorasseenfrom the operator'sposition,seeFigure17.Thislevercontrolsthe speedof the engine,aswell asthe chokewhenit ispushedall the wayforward.Whensetinagivenposition, the throttlewill maintainauniformenginespeed. Theshift leverislocatedon the controlpaneljustbelowthe seat,inthe centerof the tractor.It hasthreepositions,FORWARD, NEUTRAL andREVERSE.
Safety Interlock Switches Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedfor safeoperationofthe tractor.Ifthis systemshouldevermalfunction,do not operatethe tractor. Immediatelycontact1-800-4-MY-HOME to havethe systemserviced. Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefrom startingunless the parkingbrakeisengagedandthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverisinthe disengaged(OFF)position. Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutoff the engineif the operatorleavesthe seatbeforeengagingthe parkingbrake.
Starting the Engine AvoidSeriousinjuryor Death Donot operate the tractor if the interlocksystemismalfunctioning. This systemwasdesignedfor your safetyand protection. Knowlocationandfunctionof all controls. Removeobjectswhichcouldbethrown bythe blades. Goupanddownslopes,notacross. NOTE:Referto the Assemblysectionof thismanualforgasolineandoil fill-up instructions. Useextracautiononslopes.Donot mowslopesgreaterthan12degrees. Avoidsuddenturns.Uselow speed. 1. Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
Driving TheTractor Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedandsuddenstops. 5. Depress clutch-brakepedal. 6. Placespeedcontrolleverin desiredposition. 7. Placeshift leverineitherFORWARD or REVERSE, andfollow normaloperating procedures. Driving On Slopes Donot leavethe seat of the tractor without first placingthe PTO(Blade Engage)leverinthe disengaged(OFF)position, depressingthe brake pedal andengagingthe parkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractor unattended,also turn the ignitionkeyoff andremovethe key.
Engaging the Blades Mowing Engagingthe PTO(BladeEngage) transferspowertothe cuttingdeck. Toengage the blades,proceedasfollows: Tohelpavoid bladecontactor athrown object injury,keepbystanders, helpers,children andpets at least75feet from the machinewhile it isin operation. Stopmachineif anyoneentersthe area. 1. Movethe throttle/chokecontrolleverto the FAST (rabbit)position. 2. Graspthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotit all the wayforwardintothe engaged(ON)position. 3.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Beforeperforminganytype ofmaintenance/service, disengageall controls andstopthe engine.Waituntil all movingpartshavecometo acomplete stop.Disconnect sparkplugwire andgroundit againstthe engineto prevent unintendedstarting.Alwayswearsafetyglasses duringoperationor whUe performinganyadjustmentsor repairs. Air Filter Service Paperfilterscannotbe cleanedandshouldbereplacedevery100operatinghours; moreoften if usedinextremelydustyconditions. Neverusegasolineor low flash pointsolventsfor cleaningthe air filter element. Afire or explosioncouldresult. Donot usepressurized air or solventsto cleanthe air cleaner cartridge. If filters, or coversarenot installedcorrectly seriousinjuryor death could resultfrom backfire. Donot attempt to start the engine with them removed.

Parking BrakeAdjustment Adjustments Neverattempt to adjustthe brakeswhile the engine isrunning. Neverattempt to makeany adjustmentswhile the engine is running, except where specifiedin the operator'smanual.
Thebatteryissealedandismaintenance-free. Acidlevelscannotbechecked. Charging Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalscleanandfreeof corrosivebuild-up. Batteries give off an explosive gaswhile charging.
