The type of screen
Before you decide to purchase a screen, you
need to know whether it will be permanently
installed in a room or whether it needs to be
used in different locations. The wide
MEDIUM screen range provides an
appropriate screen for any presentation
requirement. Thanks to excellent flat
surfaces and reflection properties MEDIUM
screens produce perfectly projected images.
The screen size
Generally, the rule of thumb is:
l The minimum distance from screen:
1.5 times the width of the screen
l Maximum distance for the audience:
6 times the width of the screen
l For a seated audience the lowest part
of the screen should be 90-120 cm
from the floor
The aspect ratio
Each projection method has its
own particular ratio of width to height.
The most common ratios are:
Projection format W : H
Overhead projection 1 : 1
Digital video projection 4 : 3
Wide-screen projection (HDTV) 16 : 9
Wide-screen monitor 16 : 10
The screen surface
The reflective characteristics of a screen
surface are defined as the gain factor
(brightness gain):
l The higher the gain factor, the more
restricted but brighter the viewing angle
Different coatings of the screen surface
bring about different reflective properties
(brightness gain).
Type D screen surfaces
(d = diffus)
l Have a matt white surface
l Reflect the light in all directional axes
(horizontal + vertical) with even
distribution
l Facilitate good viewing conditions up
to 45° r/l of the projection axis and an
admissable viewing angle up to 55° - 60°
l Have a measured brightness gain factor
of 1.0 - 1.2 (according to DIN 19045)
Type S screen surfaces
(s = specular)
l Reflect the light along the projection axis
twice as brightly as type D
l Have a mother-of-pearl tint
l Facilitate very good/very bright
viewing conditions up to 30° - 35° r/l
of the projection axis
l Have a measured brightness gain factor
of 1.7 - 2.4 (according to DIN 19045)
The projector
Typ D screens are particularly suited
to high brightness projectors
(as of 2,500 – approx. 3,000 ANSI lumens)
in rooms that can be partially darkened.
The projection surface should not exceed
approx. 5 m².
Example: W 240 x H 180 cm, format 4:3.
Typ S screens achieve better results
when less bright projectors are used, in
environments with a high degree of
ambient light.
The same applies to the necessary
projection surface sizes beyond the
"limits of seminar rooms".
Example: W 400 x H 300 cm, format 4:3.
